Counselling Placement & Supervision

At Greenwich Counselling Center, we believe that the development of a therapist is an important and ongoing process. Alongside providing counselling to the local community, we offer opportunities for counselling and psychotherapy trainees to develop their clinical experience within a supportive and professionally responsible environment.

Our placement and supervision service is designed to help trainees bridge the gap between academic learning and the realities of therapeutic practice. Our placement scheme are open to psychotherapy trainees enrolled on the L4 Diploma course and above. We offer both online and in person counselling placements and free in-house supervision. We are currently accepting applications for our placement scheme.

Counselling Placements

A clinical placement can be an important part of a therapist's professional development. It provides an opportunity to work with clients, develop therapeutic skills and begin to integrate theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical experience.

Our placement opportunities are suitable for counselling and psychotherapy trainees who are looking for in-person or online placements and who value gaining gain experience working with a diverse client population. We welcome trainee applications for BACP, UK CP and trainee counselling psychologists in their latter stage of training. Please contact us to discuss your placement requirements.

Trainees may encounter clients presenting with a range of difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Work-related stress

  • Low self-esteem

  • Life transitions

  • Loneliness and isolation

  • Cultural and identity-related issues

  • Difficulties associated with migration and living between cultures

In-house Clinical Supervision

Supervision is an essential part of safe and effective therapeutic practice.

All our trainees will be offered regular, in-house supervision to provide a space where practitioners can reflect deeply about their clinical work, the impact on them as practitioners and any learning opportunities based on the clinical presentation.

External Supervision for Trainees and Qualified Practitioners

We also offer independent, external supervision for counselling and psychotherapy trainees and qualified practitioners seeking additional or ongoing clinical support. External Supervision is provided by an experienced BACP registered therapist who is in their final year of training as a counselling psychologist.
